Seeing that this snow has taken us completely by surprise, I trust that many are still out on the road and potentially too far from shelter to make it inside tonight.

[ So yer gonna get a survival guide whether you want it or not. ]

• Keep hydrated. It is easy to forget, in these conditions.
• Putting on a hat goes a long way.
• You are in more danger if you stop shivering. Keep moving, and do not sleep in freezing conditions.
• Alcohol does not keep you warm. It only gives the illusion of heat while making the situation worse.
• Your extremities will be the first to go. Expose your hands and feet as little as possible.
• Overheat too much and you will sweat, which in the long run, will make you much colder than when you started.
• Loose layers are better at keeping heat than tight athletic wear.
• Find or form a barrier against the wind.
• Clean clothing will insulate better than dirty clothing.

Impressive. Clearly laid out, useable advice anyone could easily implement. I'd say my hat's off to you, but under the circumstances that wouldn't be advisable.

Well, it was meant in jest. I suppose that doesn't translate well over text. Oh, and it involves a saying your culture might not have... well I suppose I should have thought of that before I typed it. Everyone knows a joke you have to explain just isn't funny.

[Unless the explanation itself is funny, but in Twi's experience only Pinkie Pie's ever succeeded in that.]

That's fine. I wasn't particularly good at it myself until my friends got ahold of me.

I suppose I might as well explain it anyway since it's not like I'm going to ruin the joke for you. Where I come from, taking off one's hat and holding it to one's chest is a sign of respect and admiration. Hence, the phrase "take my hat off to you" simply means "I admire what you've done here". But of course in a literal sense me taking my hat off in my current situation would be unhealthy, so the figurative and literal interpretations of the words are at odds.

You're welcome. Even if you didn't find it funny you can at least get a bit of a culture lesson out of it.

But call me curious, I have to ask, how did you get so well-versed in this sort of rough travel?

Oh. That's very sad to hear.

[She honestly doesn't know what else to say besides that, and she's very relieved right now that they're talking over text rather than video, or even audio.]

If... you say so. I'm in no position to judge, and besides, most of us are nomadic while we're in this world anyway.]

[She has her doubts, but it's not like she knows him well enough to start prying.]
friendyousohard: (That is NOT scientifically accurate.)

Well, that happens when you have beings with the powers the Legendary Pokemon possess just wandering around at will.

[Oh good, a significantly less depressing subject to talk about.]

I seem to recall the competing causes of "increasing the ocean size" and "increasing the land mass", both of which are utterly inane. Not to mention technically impossible.
