[Scar is discovering the magic of nightblogging. Perhaps not the best idea in the world, but his conversation with Ib a while back has left him thinking.

Is there actually a purpose to this second chance?]

I am curious. Do you view coming here as a bump in the road, or as a second chance for something?

[Because let's be real this can't possibly just be a giant afterlife serial killer rehab universe.]

Were we brought here for a purpose? For our own benefit?

Depends on the person, I'd say. Not all of us really need a second chance. For some of us, it's something else. Like an escape.

[An escape from one prison to another, in some people's eyes. Riku appreciates the space the two regions offer, but a part of him certainly cries out for more.]

Couldn't tell you if we were brought here for a reason. There's still a lot we don't understand about this place to begin with. Trust me, I've been here for four years, and I still don't get how things work half the time.

But seeing how some people have to give up powers and change species to come here, I don't know if it's really for our benefit.

Nobody has ever even come forward to say how it is we have come to be here in the first place?

Superhuman abilities are not needed here, though. There is minimal violence, and we have Pokémon to match or surpass whatever we could do before.

Nobody. The locals don't know, the Pokémon don't know. It's all one big question mark, and it has been for four years.

I don't know about that. Much as I like my team, I hate having to rely on them. And for people who grew up as other species or with magic as a huge part of their lives, I can see how it'd be a tough pill to swallow.

Humans have survived fine by themselves. Having these animals as companions gives enough leverage as is.

Regardless, I suppose this means that we just have to sit back and accept that we will never know.

Not big on fighting, are you?

Personally, I'd like to think there's a way to find out. I just don't expect it to happen any time soon. I swear, the mysteries here just keep piling up. The ledges are another big one.

Special powers are unnecessary for fighting, and true violence is so rare here that fighting itself is unneeded.

[That, or the crime rate is completely normal, and Scar just has a very skewed perception of it thanks to the miserable state in which Amestris had placed the rest of his world.]

Eh, maybe, but I still prefer to take care of myself. But maybe that's because I've already spent years training a team. It just isn't as fulfilling as it used to be.

[But then, Riku lacks Scar's harrowing experiences. He may be a few years older now, but his life's been so peaceful that it's easy to take things for granted. As for the ledges...]
