[Scar is discovering the magic of nightblogging. Perhaps not the best idea in the world, but his conversation with Ib a while back has left him thinking.

Is there actually a purpose to this second chance?]

I am curious. Do you view coming here as a bump in the road, or as a second chance for something?

[Because let's be real this can't possibly just be a giant afterlife serial killer rehab universe.]

Were we brought here for a purpose? For our own benefit?

This isn't the first time I've found myself in a strange and wonderful new place, so I like to think of it as a detour.

Was the last "strange and wonderful" place similar to this? If you do not mind my asking.

It was very different! It was unlike anything I had seen before--just like this place.

It was called Christmas Town.

The second best holiday there is! When winter comes, people gather together to remind one another how important they are to them and often do so by giving gifts.

And how does a town supposedly "make" this?

Oh, I'm sure there was a purpose to it.

But I don't give a damn what it was. If anyone were to tell me I owe them a favor for the mere fact that I exist, I'd tell them to piss off.

Neither. I've always viewed it as the next adventure to come.

None of the above. I originally thought this was some form of divine punishment. Now I'm not so sure. I have found some great and wondrous things when I expected nothing to be good again. I liken it to limbo, a sort of in between.

I don't think it's a second chance, because that would mean that we can undo whatever happened to us back home, or we can make it better somehow. I know we can't; what happened, happened, and we're going to be carrying that with us forever.

But I think that we may have been brought here for our benefit; a lot of my friends and I were in a bad situation back home, and this place is giving us a chance to heal from it and support each other like we couldn't back there.

Originally I viewed it as the worst possible setback, but for me, it really is little more than a bump in the road at this point.

I do not think that we owe anybody any favors. I am simply wondering if this is all supposed to be for our benefit, and if others think similarly.

Divine punishment? I arrived assuming the opposite. What kind of place did you come from that this would be likened to hell?

I did not mean to say that this place is a means of erasing the past.

Perhaps a better word would be a place of repentance. Or renewal, in the case of you and your friends.
