"They won't leave. I woke up, and they were all hovering." Little other explanation was really required, for this world. Things like this were commonplace.
If the random company of gentle animals was the biggest thing Scar had to worry about, he could manage.
He crouched down to greet Guttle with a pat on the region where his head would be.
"Mine wasn't keen on leaving either. I left it curled up with Amoz, I already have a dozen cutesy creatures, what's one more?" Maybe it had some practical use. Or a devastating battle move.
"I've checked us in, we can go right on up. It's a suite, so there's a living room and kitchen area separated from the bedroom. I brought some things - a deck of cards, snacks, some board games, a book." All stashed in her backpack. They'd be well entertained while they waited out the holiday.
Scar only nodded as he pushed the button to call the elevator. At the very least, it was a day inside from the cold. And it would be a good test to see if they could tolerate one another for that long.
He surprised himself, when his gut instinct was that they would be perfectly fine.
His brigade of Munna followed him into the elevator. Oh, well. Scar didn't mind their company.
Lust had to laugh at the little gaggle of eggephants that joined them in the elevator. They were like a diminutive group of little elderly chaperons, and the idea was an amusing one to her.
She pressed the button for their floor, one of the high ones, and settled back against the wall of the elevator.
"It feels like it's been ages since I spent any time in a hotel room." Even on those occasions when she met Scar at a hotel for breakfast, they stayed down in the lobby. "I've heard they're very nice, here." And she'd gotten some sort of very good package discount.
"Thousands of dollars," she drawled. Really, what did it matter? "I got a good deal, I didn't spend anything more than I wanted to. But really, I feel I should mention this now, as it's come up a few times. I make good money. I'm proud of that. I like to spend that money on myself. It's mine, I earned it myself for myself. And I can do whatever I want with it. So I do."
For her, living well was a proof of her freedom and control over her own life. It was something she did proudly, and Scar was going to have to get used to it.
Scar shot her a frown. There was preferring simple living, then there was Scar, who took it to the extreme. He wasn't comfortable spending money, and was even less comfortable having it spent on him. Yes, this was for Lust, but he still didn't like the feeling of it. He just didn't.
"I won't mention it again," he grumbled as the elevator doors slid open and he stepped into the hallway.
"You can mention it all you want, but I thought I should explain. I don't particularly care about money or wealthy things, but I care what it means that I can give them to myself."
She didn't want him getting the idea that she had some need for a life of luxury, or expected him to share her ease and enjoyment of spending.
She checked the hotel key card and started off down the hall, Guttle at her heels.
Scar followed, quiet as always with the Munna floating in a silent trail behind him. He supposed he would have to find a permanent place of residence if this continued, much as he didn't want to admit it. He couldn't just keep meeting her in lobbies and dining areas, and he certainly wasn't going to make visiting her home a regular activity.
"I'm not going to mention it if you feel the need to explain yourself." He didn't really care that much, but when he was struggling for words, nothing ever came to mind but the little uncertainties and annoyances that flicked around his mind all day.
"Explaining myself tends to avoid misunderstandings in the long run. It's a good habit to have." And one she was trying hard to make stick. The room wasn't too far down the hall, and at least it seemed this was a quiet time of the day for the hotel. It did seem to smell rather overpoweringly of flowers, though.
"Here's us." She slid the keycard into the door, a small tremor of excitement going through her. They were really doing this. "I brought a few board games and a deck of cards, and I..."
Lust's sentence was cut off as she opened the door and was greeted by the suite she'd booked.
There were rose petals everywhere. There were candles. There was champagne and some fancy table setting. The doors between the bedroom and living room were wide open and there were petals on the bed. She gaped in sheer panicked horror. There had to be some mistake. She hadn't booked this. She hadn't booked any of this!
Scar's face dropped into a mast of near-horror upon opening the door. The only thing that kept him from assuming the absolute worst was that Lust seemed equally shocked upon seeing the state of their suite. There was a tense pause before Scar growled-
It was the first thing that came to Lust's mind. She was just relieved that Scar didn't immediately assume she'd asked for this. She hadn't asked for any of this. Good god, what if a family had booked this room? A father and son or something? Presumptuous indeed!
But then again she didn't pay too much attention to the package deal she'd gotten. Why would she have? All she was doing was booking a hotel suite!
"I don't know what happened, I didn't give any indication I wanted any of this. Just the room!"
Guttle, however, was already rolling into the room, wide eyed and open mouthed. So pretty! So romantic! So delicious looking!
"I don't care either way, so long as this wasn't your doing." Which it wasn't. They were just cheesy decorations. Scar stepped inside and set his bag down next to the couch.
Lust sighed and closed the door behind them. So much for escaping the holiday.
"Festive decor aside, it's a nice room."
Guttle, at least, was already doing his part. Clearly his Trainer and Trainer's Special Grumpy Friend did not want the delicious looking flowers just lying there waiting to be devoured. So he set to rolling over them and doing just that.
"Mm." Scar didn't much care one way or another what the room was like. He settled on the couch and let his Pokémon out; there was plenty of room for all of them.
He wasn't certain of what to do now, but Lust would think of something if she wanted to do something.
Lust began unloading her backpack as a flurry of rose petals was kicked up in Guttle's enthusiasm. He even gobbled up what was on the bed. And then rolled right back to the sitting room, tongue out, looking for anything missed.
Until Lust cleared her throat as she was piling the board games she'd brought from home on the coffee table. At the subtle reminder, the Spheal zoomed over to Scar, bumping against his leg to get his attention. And then leaned back, prominently displaying a lump in the scarf tied around him.
What passed for amusement for Scar briefly appeared in his eyes when Guttle bumped lightly into his leg. He was such a silly but endearing creature, even if he ate everything he set eyes on. Something contracted in Scar's chest, though, when he noticed that the Spheal seemed to be presenting him with something.
Rather, Lust seemed to be presenting him with something.
Scar reached down to take whatever it was from under Guttle's scarf, shooting a look across the room at Lust.
"He wanted to show his appreciation for the other night." She looked down at the table when she spoke, rather than at Scar. It was easiest, this way, using Guttle as a buffer.
Inside the scarf was what was commonly referred to as a multi-tool. She'd thought it would be useful, for Scar. It had all manner of small tools built into it - screwdriver, tweezers, magnifying glass, little clippers, a tool for prying, bottle opener, things like that. He spent so much time just wandering about without a permanent residence, it seemed like something he could make use of.
And Scar was the sort of man to be given useful, small gifts.
"Did he." She certainly had a funny way of going about avoiding the awkward emotions involved in giving gifts. Scar took the gift from Guttle and turned it over carefully in his hands. It was useful. Practical. He was silent for a moment, flicking open the different components and inspecting them before he finally spoke up.

"Presumptuous fools."
