[Scar's been lying low in Olivine ever since the hurricane, and he's starting to go a little stir-crazy. Being left bored with his thoughts can only end in one thing. Anon questions.]

In my time here, I have come to find that there are a great many "worlds" that are home to people who wouldn't be considered human, but experience the same depth of thought and range of emotion.

[Even he can make that conclusion, now.]

In that case, what is humanity? A measure of physical traits? A state of mind? Something into which one must be born?

Some of them, yeah. It kinda depends on which demon you're talking to. You get demons who don't look much different from humans, and then other times you get ones who look like mutant bats or squids or something. A lot of demons're able to take on a more human appearance if they wanna blend in with humans, though. I've got a friend like that back home.

[And then there's Kurama, but uh, his situation is a little more complicated than Hiei's. For multiple reasons.]

Uh... sure. No problem.

[WELP. That's that, then. Yusuke's about to let the conversation go there, since whoever it is on the other end of the line doesn't seem to have anything more to say, but then, just as he's about to switch his 'Gear off and put it away, curiosity gets the better of him and he ends up sending another message, this one arriving a few minutes after the last one.]

So what brought this on, anyway? Do you not have many non-humans where you're from or something?

There are non-humans where I am from. My reason for questioning mainly involves the changes that occur upon arrival in this world.

You mean how non-humans turn into humans here. Right?

[It seems as good a guess as any. Yusuke can't think of any other "changes" that this person might be referring to.]

Correct. It is a nearly to completely impossible process, as far as my knowledge lies.

[angerpoints]

Yeaaah, same here. The only time I've ever heard of somebody switching species was when I fought this guy back home who'd gone from being a human to a demon. That was different, though. Becoming a demon was his choice, not something that just happened to him.

[And then there's Kurama again, but Yusuke's not gonna bring that up. That's a long story, and not his to tell. And also it's complicated, as previously mentioned. KURAMA IS AN INTERESTING DUDE WITH AN INTERESTING PAST, let's just put it that way.]

Kinda makes you wonder about the people running this place, huh? They've gotta have some pretty strong powers to be able to fuck around with us the way they do. Or some serious technology.

[NOT THAT HE'S PARTICULARLY FOND OF THE IDEA OF HAVING BEEN MESSED WITH BY SOME MACHINE, buuut you know. It's a theory.]
